General Synod – Day Fourteen

On this last day of the synod, members spent much of the morning discussing how to use the Working Paper for preparation for the XVIII General Chapter in 2012.  They also reflected upon their experiences of the synod as a whole with written evaluations and sharing in the large group.

Finally, Fr. Andrew Urbański gave a closing address, thanking all who had a part in the preparation and execution of the XIII General Synod of the Society of the Divine Savior.

The evening was a time of celebration – first of all with Holy Mass, and then a fiesta on the grounds.  We now bid farewell to the Centro Latinoamericano Salvatoriano and Logroño.

General Synod – Day Twelve

Today was a free day, and after the Eucharistic Liturgy, synod members and staff were free to rest, relax, or tour the region.

General Synod – Day Thirteen

This was a reflective day.  Synod members engaged in a process of reflection and discernment using the Working Paper which was prepared in preparation for the 2010 General Chapter.

The synod raised several themes in its discernment which the members believed were important for the future of the Society, including:

  • A deepening of our Salvatorian spirituality and identity,
  • Long-range planning, especially in the areas of vocations, formation, and expansion,
  • The renewal of community life,
  • The need for effective international leadership,
  • The evangelization of youth, among others.

July 24

This was a short workday for the plenum of the general synod.

Synod members looked at the suggested common agenda for the meeting of the two general chapters of the Society and the Congregation of the Sisters with the international assembly of the International Community of the Divine Savior.  Suggested issues from the coordinating committee included:

  • The Salvatorian Family Charter
  • Justice and Peace
  • The Salvatorian Family
  • Preparation for the Beatification of Fr. Jordan

The synod also approved a reflection letter to be sent to all delegates of the unit preparatory chapters for the general chapter in 2012.  It concerns the need for discernment about identifying members from the unit who are willing and able to serve on the next generalate.

Provincials and superiors then met in continental groups to discuss issues of interest to them locally.
